Sony VAIO X: The ultra-portable Pro carbon fiber and aluminum

Screen 11 inches, less than 1 cm thick, 700 grams, a design dream and an exceptional finish: Welcome to the Pro range of Sony. This new ultra-portable VAIO X series is unveiled at IFA in Berlin for visual pleasure, and unhappiness of your banker.

The Sony X series has emerged with the X505 in 2004. Then it was a UFO in the world of laptops, and it has unfortunately not been successful because of its high price (3200 euros to its release!). Still, the demonstration technique was obvious and this, 4 years before the release of the famous MacBook Air (MBA) from Apple, which launched the fashion for laptops and ultra-thin light.
Sony has decided this year to boost its X series with a new model, the probable intention of riding the wave of the contract he himself created, and that has really surged with the MBA.
The machine shown at IFA was a prototype, with use of the platform of Intel Atom for demonstration purposes. It actually always better than an empty shell. Sony did not however intend to keep such a platform, as they announced that the final version would be closer to a notebook than a netbook. One imagines that the solution will be processor-based ultra-low power present in the Intel platform Culver (like the MSI X340 for example).

Let’s mention that this model seems to be equipped with a slab mate, which would be a real asset to differentiate itself from Apple or Dell Adamo MBA for example.
In this demonstration model, the connection comes down to 2 USB ports, a memory card reader, a SIM card slot and VGA output. Hopefully that will be replaced by VGA HDMI in the retail version.

A finesse and weight records

In addition to the configuration that is not interesting for the moment, we particularly note the characteristics of this new record VAIO X. With less than 1 cm thick and weighing only 700 grams, it shows the way to its competitors that suddenly blow a hell of old. Indeed, the MBA is twice as big and twice as heavy as he was referring in the field so far.
Pictured above (from our colleague engadget), you can see the difference with an Apple MacBook Pro 15 inch, which is yet not very heavy compared to other market models.
